Climate Change Update, August 2021

Climate Change Benefit, Saturday/Sunday, October 23, 24, 2021

By Bonnie Freeman

Hello! We have been working overtime prepping for the Climate Show with our great beneficiaries, (Community Environmental Council (CEC)), the Sierra Club Los Padres Chapter) and our contributing relationship with the CRP (Climate Change Reality Project), who are lining up some amazing speakers, videos and educational activities for the show (for kids too).  Our next update should be filled with many more details, but we can’t hold back our joy another minute of having HOLLI HARMON accept our invitation to be our JUROR. Details to follow soon.

Plus, there is an exciting Paint-Out that SCAPE member Jerry and crew organized that you can read about in the Paint Out Section of this Website.

In the meantime, we’re working on press releases, so congratulations go out to three SCAPE artists who submitted their work in time for promotionals. Two top winners and one alternate were selected among the many wonderful submissions. Thank you all!

ADVANCE NOTE: Paintings for the Climate Change Show can be submitted from September 6 to October 8, with a couple of paint-outs scheduled before.

Benefits: Bonnie Freeman,

Exhibits: Natalie Wilson,

Ron Ehmsen’s "Restoration" (24x12) Acrylics on stretched canvas. "The title stems from the aftermath of such devastating fires, a time when the forest hopefully regenerates itself."

Lee Savage’s “Heavy Metals”, watercolor done with iridescent gold and silver. The Earth's crust is depicted, with the Earth's core and sky. The tree is composed of gold and silver as a result of pollution and climate change.”

The alternate is Anthony Galvan’s monotype, “Nowhere to Run”. Anthony explains, “The wildfires in Australia coupled with our wildfires inspired me to work on this theme, where entire communities were on the run.
